After forming in 2006 as a straight ahead jazz group, guitarist Mike Eber, drummer Jeff Eber, and bassist Johnny DeBlase immediately broke free of the bonds of tradition. The trio began combining progressive rock grooves, tech metal, free improv, and complex song forms to create a unique compositional style. Equally influenced by vintage progressive acts such as Magma and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, polymetric metal like Meshuggah, and the improvisational approach of Vijay Iyer and Ben Monder, Zevious is a distinctive fusion band in the burgeoning punk-jazz movement.
Zevious has toured the United States and Canada extensively, playing alongside bands such as Dysrhythmia, Seabrook Power Plant, Behold... the Arctopus, Upsilon Acrux, STATS, Algernon, PAK, Child Abuse, and Faun Fables. Their third album, Passing Through the Wall, is set to be released in September 2013 on Cuneiform Records.
